Power of Attorney and Authentication of Documents

  

Process in Person


Power of Attorneys may be processed with same day service at the Consulate.

  1. Please review our available Power of Attorneys below, or you may obtain a particular Power of Attorney forms at our office upon arrival.
  2. Please have a valid National ID or Valid Egyptian Passport.
  3. Since you will be signing in front of a Member of the Consulate, you will not need a Notary.
  4. Each Power of Attorney requires a $25, Exact Cash, Money Order or Cashier's Check made out to: The Consulate of Egypt in Chicago.
  5. The process time is ONE business day
  6. Authenticating other type of documents requires a notary and Seal of the Secretary of State Office from the State in which the document was issued from.


Process by Mail 


  1. Locate the correct Power of Attorney below and download the form.
  2. Fill out the specified areas using a Valid Egyptian Passport or Valid National ID.
  3. Since you will not be signing in front of a Member of the Consulate, you will need to sign in front of a Notary prior to sending your Power of Attorney to our office.
  4. Draft a cover letter that indicates that you would like to legalize the Power of Attorney and include your Name, Address, and Phone number so that if there are any questions we may contact you.
  5. Take a photocopy of your Valid National ID or Valid Egyptian Passport and Include it with the documents.  
  6. Each Power of Attorney requires a $25 Money Order or Cashier's Check made out to: The Consulate of Egypt in Chicago
  7. Authenticating other type of documents also requires a notary.
  8. In order to send back the documents, please enclosed a prepaid return traceable envelope made out to:

Before mailing out your Power of Attorney please be sure to include the following items:

  • Cover Letter​ with your name, address, and phone number included.
  • Notarized document
  • Copy of valid National ID (Front/Back) or valid Egyptian Passport
  • Money Order or Cashier Check 
  • Return pre-paid traceable envelope addressed to you for return of the documents (ONLY UPS or United States Priority Mail).


​​Process documents without an Egyptian ID

In the case that you are processing a power of attorney, and do not have a valid National ID or Egyptian Passport and choose to use a U.S. Passport, please follow these steps:

  1. Please review the available Power of Attorney's below and download the proper form.
  2. Using your U.S. Passport, please fill out the specified areas.
  3. You will need to sign in front of a Notary, followed by obtaining a Secretary of State Seal.
  4. Authenticating other type of documents requires a notary and Seal of the Secretary of State Office from the State in which the document was issued from.
  5. Each documents requires a $25 Money Order or Cashier's Check made out to: The Consulate of Egypt in Chicago

And include the following:

  • Cover letter with name, address and phone number included.
  • Your document has been Notarized and includes the  Secretary of State Seal.
  • A photocopy of your U.S. Passport 
  • Money Order or Cashier Check 
  • Return pre-paid traceable envelope addressed to you for return of the documents. (ONLY UPS or United States Priority Mail).


**Please note, IF your Egyptian Name and your American Name are different, please contact the Consulate prior to sending your Power of Attorney.

ALL documents will be thoroughly reviewed by the Consulate General of Egypt before final authentication.  The Consulate reserves the right not to process power of attorneys based on missing documents, improper findings, or filing, and or non jurisdictional territories.  Please allow THREE business days for processing.
