Egyptian Passports 

Since November 15, 2015, ALL hand-written passports are considered obsolete and you must apply for a machine readable passport.

  • The new machine-readable passport applications can be processed through the Consulate.  Passport processing takes approximately 10-12 weeks from the date of submission to Egypt.
  • National ID Cards are required for renewal of passports for those ages 16 years old and above.
  • Only digital Birth Certificate is required for those whose ages 15 years or younger
  • For those that do not have a National ID, an electronic birth certificate is required. The passport will only be issued for 1 year validity.

You may apply by mail or in-person at the Consulate.

To Apply by Mail:

  1. Cover letter stating that you would like to renew your passport and request purchasing FORM 29, including your name, phone number and address.
  2. Copy of your expired passport from pages 1-2.
  3. PHOTOCOPY of your National ID, FRONT and BACK
  4. PHOTOCOPY of your Digital Birth Certificate for all ages.
  5. Four (2X2) Current Passport Pictures, white background.
  6. Male Applicants: You must provide proof of military-service status.  For those born before March 18, 1941, such proof is not required
  7. Female Applicants: You must provide social status proof.
  8. Academic registration proof is also required for student applicants.
  9. Only Money order for $165.00 made out to: The Consulate of Egypt
    1. If you have a Lost or Damaged Passport, the fee is $205.00. Lost passports applicants must submit a police report with the application request along with a photocopy of the passport. A security clearance approval is required from Egypt before we submit the application for processing.
  10. Please enclose a return prepaid trackable envelope (UPS or United States Priority Mail/ Priority Express) for us to return FORM 29.

Once you receive FORM 29 back from our office:

  1. Please fill out the first and last page of the application. The application MUST BE SIGNED in front of a NOTARY PUBLIC.
  2. Make a photocopy of your application for your records.
  3. Send your completed application to the Consulate General of Egypt in Chicago for submission with an additional return, prepaid- TRACKABLE envelope. ONLY  UPS or United States Priority Mail are accepted so that we may return the passport to you once it arrives back from Egypt in our office.

Please note 

  • Passport processing takes place in Egypt, please allow for 10-12 weeks before return of your passport.  Once it has arrived at our office, we will call you to confirm, at that time, if you have not sent in a return prepaid trackable envelope you may do so or pick up in person.  It is your duty to inform us of any changes to your address, phone number changes and or the information on your return envelope.
  • If the current Egyptian passport is still valid, you will be asked to mail it or bring it to the Consulate at the time for pick up to be canceled before we mail you or hand you the new one.
